This fine condition Fayetteville Rifle was manufactured in North Carolina from captured machinery taken from Harper&146;s Ferry Arsenal in 1861. This example is 1864 lock plate dated at left of hammer, with Fayetteville stamped right of lock. Eagle stamped on lock with “CSA” below. Barrel is properly stamped “VP” over Eagle Head on barrel breach, with barrel dated 1864. Standard “S” pattern hammer. Bore condition is near mint, with perfect condition 58 caliber rifling. Missing rear site as in it&146;s original located condition. This rifle was located with it&146;s original CS rifle sling. Rarely do these rifles survive with the original cartouche PB still visible, representing Fayetteville master armorer Philip Burkhart. Exceptional condition example.
