One of the true workhorses of the American Civil War, was the Model 1842 percussion pistol. This pistol is a 54 caliber smoothbore, 8.5 inch round barrel, brass blade front site, with total length at 14″. Marked US/I.N. JOHNSON on lockplate, rear of plate marked MIDD.tn. CONN with 1854 date. Proof stamped on breech of barrel US/P with inspector initials stamped JCR, and inspector marked “B” throughout all assembly parts. Trigger retaining most blued finish, metal originial bright finish, with wood retaining all of the original laquered finish. This model 1842 is in very “fine” condition. Most 1842 percussion pistols endured heavy service in the Civil War, as they were very popular for use. Fine condition Civil War arms are exceedingly rare to encounter.
